minus one
we went for walk this evening together as family, mom, dad, h and the two dogs for the first time since . . . i so vividly remember that last friday with our ren, we had just gotten home from the picu, hospice services were established and then all the people were gone and it was just the four of us. i asked my husband if we could use the double stroller that i had received for my birthday from my sister for the first time with both of our children in it. august 29. he would die less than 48 hours later. it was so bittersweet to all be together, the warm evening sunshine beating on us, the breeze light and refreshing, so different from the many days and weeks spent in the very closed up, sterile and suffocating hospital. sadness flows back in a wave. my dear husband is struggling right now as he so appropriately reminded me that he is not on meds to help smooth things over and to stabilize the highs and the lows to a very nonchalant, even keel place that i am now at. i told him that he could get some meds too and he said that he doesn't like medications and doesn't want to be on anything, well, no kidding. he was sad this afternoon while holding our daughter while she was napping that he can't hold both of our children and that with baseball season starting, he will miss his son. he had a little opportunity to watch some last year with our ren. it is so hard not to have our child. even tho the olympics are still three years off, i know that it will bring back memories of my late night feeding with ren. we are minus one. . .

These waves of grief are hard. Sweet moments like walks, baseball games, warm evening sometimes take on different meanings depending on where you are on, in, or consumed by the wave. Sending you peace to you and your husband.
ReplyDeleteRuth, I'm so sorry you can't hold your son right now and that your husband doesn't have his little buddy in his arms as well. If you can, encourage your husband to take care of himself - with or without meds. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Always.
ReplyDeletePeace.
Hey sweety. Thank you for the kind comment.
ReplyDeleteI know your pain, and it's sucks, to put it very lightly. I know you've heard that men and women cope differently, and now you're seeing it play out in your life. You guys have patience with each other, or try.
I hope today is a good day for you.
Sending you my love, Lindsay xox
Life is meaningless under the sun. there are so many thing i wish to say, but the words just wont come out.As the days grow longer and the sun sines brighter i amd remindered how meaningless this world is. You have been thought a lot and there is n words to help u get past these days. I pray that God gives you pease and that he will be the meaning of your day. You will never live up to what other want you to be, your self inclueded. Just hold fast to what you know is true. That God so loved the world that he gave His Son to die for us. We fall short of God's hopes for us and yet He is there for us. On those hard days look to the auther and perfector of your faith and lean on Him. I know these words are not what we as greving parantd want to hear, but they are the sweetest word that are unchanging. Know that god is will never leave you, even thought at times it seems like He has. When the dark days come recall HIm love for us and the sweet days you did have with your Ren.
ReplyDeleteRuth,
ReplyDeleteThank you, thank you, thank you. Your prayers and positive thoughts are so helpful. I feel fortunate that I got the 'easy' cancer and that you are praying for me.
I am continuing to pray for you. Losing our babies is so much more difficult than health issues of our own, if you don't count depression. I'm praying that both you and your husband are able to find some peace and happy moments.
Praying for you...that you would find comfort as He carries you...I'm so sorry for this deep pain and sorrow...so sorry that you are living a life minus one...so sorry for the loss of your precious child.
